ABOUT THIS ALBUM – 1968
It was late one night when my phone rang. On the calling end was one of the nation’s foremost preachers, The Rev. O. L. Holliday. His voice was strained as he spoke. “I’ve been lying here awake all night,” he said. “I’ve spoken with God, I’ve prayed, I’ve searched my soul, and I feel that I am ready to deliver a sermon as a tribute to The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.”
The next day, I made arrangements with a recording studio in Baltimore, Maryland to record the sermon. I was over-powered by the depth, sincerity, and feeling of Rev. Holliday’s words. This is certainlya fitting tribute to such a man as The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM THE REV. O. L. HOLLIDAY
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 8:32)
I am dedicating this album as a special tribute to the late Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the cause of freedom.
To me, the late Dr. King was one of the most brilliant young men of our time. A student of philosophy, a prophet of social justice, a pioneer, a blazer of trails, a dynamic and potent leader of his people in their struggle for equality.
Non-violence was his creed. He was convinced in both mind and heart that non-violent resistance was the most potent weapon available to impress people in their struggle for freedom and human dignity. The method of non-violent resistance served as a guiding light throughout the entire civil rights movement. Jesus Christ furnished the spirit and the motivation.
Dr. King’s voice was forever silenced on the evening of April 4, 1968, by an assassin’s bullet. Even though his voice can no longer be heard speaking on our behalf, his memory lingers still. The cause for which he struggled shall not die. The quest for freedom marches on. The vision of brotherhood love and equality must be fulfilled.
This message is also dedicated to Mrs. Coretta King, who stood so firmly by her husband’s side. The King family, the-member of the Second Baptist Church of Baltimore, Maryland, Rev. J. Price, Pastor (where this sermon was, delivered on Friday night April 19, 1968), the members of The Greater New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Houston, Texas, of which I am Pastor, and to all who listen to this album.
You have my blessings and prayers that God will hasten the day when there will be peace not only abroad, but peace at home and peace in our lives. Yes, I do believe we shall overcome someday and there shall be “FREEDOM AFTER A WHILE.”
Yours in Christ,
REV. OMIE L. HOLLIDAY
